4th Annual Cowgirl Christmas Fundraiser

This is our 4th annual Cowgirl Christmas fundraiser for the Santa Fe Pony Club.  The Santa Fe Pony Club is a chapter of the United States Pony Club.  The Pony Club's goals are to teach safe, humane riding practices and good horse management to children ages 8-21years.  Any child can join Pony Club whether or not they own a horse or pony.  Most Pony Clubs have horses available to be ridden by children who do not have their own.  Pony club meetings are divided between unmounted meetings when members learn about tack and tack care, veterinary care, stable care, and feeding and mounted meetings where Pony Clubbers practice safe riding techniques and improve their skills.  In addition Pony Clubbers attend rallies and horse trials.  There are 5 levels of accomplishment for pony clubbers, each with a manual, and each pony clubber must pass tests in order to move on to the next level.  Many now famous riders and very many veterinarians began their careers as United States Pony Clubbers.  When the United States Equestrian Federation announced the short list for the 2012 Olympic Equestrian Team 8 of the 11 riders were former Pony Clubbers.

Barn Dogs strongly supports the United States Pony Club and the skills it teaches.  In 2015 the United States Pony Club voted to allow adults to join and learn.  This is a wonderful opportunity for first time horse owners and adults who have just begun to ride to learn from the ground up in a fun setting.
